Thousands of people turned out to enjoy the sunshine and the second huge party of the weekend in Oxford.

Mayfly, which was held in South Park yesterday, attracted 6,000 people. There was something for everyone ranging from the Sonic dance tent, live music, a fun fair, street entertainers, stalls and plenty to eat and drink.

This was the second of the Fun in the Parks events, organised by Oxford City Council and sponsored by the Oxford Mail. The first was the Oxford Gay Pride Festival, which took place on Saturday.

Bands playing at yesterday's Mayfly event included X-Hail, Eeblee, Chamfer, Nation Cheesgraters and Box Hedge Clippers. The children's tent was packed with things to do, including making masks and kites, clay models and painting, while a volley ball tournament was held at the event for the first time.

Council events officer Anna Dolan said: "It went very well; it's always a popular event. There was lots of things for everyone to do."
