Archaeologists have started a new dig on a town centre site in Wallingford.

An initial investigation found evidence giving details about medieval life in the area from around 1100.

Now Thames Valley Archaeological Services want to see if much more can be found on the site linking St Martin's Street and St Mary's Street.

The history and future of the site was the main topic at a recent Wallingford Business Partnership breakfast meeting.

Opinder Liddar, architect for the shops and flats which will be built on the site, and archaeologist Dr Steve Ford spoke about what had been found and what could be expected.

The back of the two listed building cottages have rarely been seen as they were obscured by a garage and other commercial premises.

They will be obscured again when the development takes place.
