AN Oxford yob dubbed a “complete menace” by a judge was today jailed for four months.

Byron Haines, who has 15 convictions for 24 offences, admitted two counts of breaching an antisocial behaviour order (Asbo) at Oxford Crown Court.

The 19-year-old, of Goldfinch Close, Greater Leys, was handed an extension to an existing two-year Asbo at Oxford Magistrates’ Court in September, but broke it within a week by going to an area of the estate he was banned from and by associating with Dexter Williams on September 19.

Haines handed himself into police on October 2.

Colin McCarragh, defending, said Haines had been put in a cell with Williams – despite the ban from associating with him – after his arrest, a situation he described as “confusing”. Mr McCarragh added his client had changed because of a steady and devoted girlfriend who was carrying his child.

Judge Patrick Eccles said: “So far in your young life you’ve proved to be a complete menace to the courts.”

Haines has already served 55 days in custody and will serve only half of his four-month sentence behind bars.
