Abingdon United’s new striker Leon Gordon may have to be satisfield with a place on the bench when they host Division 1 South & West leaders Windsor & Eton.

The former Ardley United frontman scored a hat-trick on his debut in Monday’s 3-1 League Cup win at Beaconsfield, but boss Andy Slater has not decided on the line-up for Saturday.

“He gives us another option upfront with his pace,” said Slater, whose side are fifth in the table.

“We will see whether he makes his league debut, but he has done his chances no harm at all. You can’t really do any more than score a hat-trick on your debut.”

Slater, who has James Organ back from a ban, added: “If we are going to do anything this season, we need to be competing with the likes of Windsor.”

Defender Richard Peirson faces a late test on a calf injury.

North Leigh will be without defender Andy Helby for their trip to Bridgwater due to unforseen circumstances.

The defender lost a contact lens during Wednesday’s 2-1 Cup defeat at Swindon Supermarine and will be out for two to three weeks while he waits for a special replacement lens.

They are also without Andy McCabe (swine flu), Jamie Jackson (groin), Ady Holder (suspended), Ryan Curtin (knee) and Matt Taylor (suspended), while Chris Allen (virus) is a doubt.

Banbury United boss Billy Jeffrey wants a much-improved performance when they host Hednesford Town in the Premier Division.

It follows Tuesday’s shock 2-1 defeat by Midlands Division side Woodford United and he does not want a repeat.

“I was very disappointed with our display,” said Jeffrey, who adds striker David Stone after injury.

“Some of the principles that have served us so well this season were lacking. The work ethic wasn’t there in the first half.

“I think some of our players thought they just had to turn up. They have to learn that you have to put in the hard work whoever you play.”

Midfielder Declan Benjamin (ankle) faces a fitness test.

Oxford City could be without keeper Richard Knight for several weeks as his thigh injury is worse than expected.

That gives an extended run to Will Puddy, who is on loan for a month from Cheltenham Town.

Boss Mike Ford said:“We are hoping Richard can get treated by Neil Sullivan, the ex-Oxford United physio, who is at Derby County.

“We have spoken to Cheltenham and hopefully can have Will for another month.”

City, who host Merthyr will also miss Andy Ballard, David Perpetuini, James Clarke (all banned) and Mark Janes (ill) and Lee Steele (hamstring).”

Michael Alexis makes his Didcot Town debut at Cambridge City after completing his move from Oxford City.

Ian Sampson (banned) and Andy Williams (knee) miss out, while Matty Jack (back) has a late test.

Boss Stuart Peace said: “It’s going to be tough because they are unbeaten. But they have to lose sometime, so why not to us?”
