Little Teiron Shearing is giving up his Christmas morning to raise money for the special care baby unit at Dorset County Hospital.

His mother, Tarnia Shearing, 26, said Teiron was devastated when it was feared that SCBU may be under threat after the hospital revealed it had to make millions of pounds worth of cuts to jobs and services.

The unit means so much to him because he watched three of his younger brothers spend their first weeks of life in SCBU in Dorchester.

Teiron, aged seven, also lost out on a fourth brother who would have been six today after he sadly died after there was complications at the birth.

The Broadwindsor School pupil will be taking part in a sponsored walk on Christmas day with the rest of his family to raise money for the cause which is close to all of their hearts.

Beforehand, Teiron will be carrying collection buckets and walking through Bridport town centre this Saturday and through Weymouth town centre on Sunday, December 6.

Full time mum Mrs Shearing, of Barnes Lane in Beaminster, said: “Teiron has spent so much time at SCBU that he realises how important it is and doing these walks was completely his idea.

“He asked me why it was closing and when I told him it was because of the lack of money he asked me why somebody couldn’t give the unit the cash they needed.

“I tried explaining that it doesn’t work like that and people need to fundraise and that is when he asked why we couldn’t do that. He then told me he would be willing to give up his Christmas and all his toys.

“If it wasn’t for SCBU, my sons might not be here today because they all needed immediate care.”
