Peruvian scarves and Palestinian olive oil epitomise One World Fair

PERUVIAN hand-crafted scarves, African textiles and Palestinian olive oil were among the items on sale at the One World Fair.

About 1,200 people were at Oxford Town Hall, St Aldate’s, on Saturday for the event.

The fair, organised by Oxfam, united groups selling arts, crafts and food to raise funds.

A vegetarian cafe, selling food prepared by the fair committee, raised £1,500 for Oxfam.

Fairtrade, Cuba Solidarity, Amnesty International and the World Development Movement were among 48 groups with stalls.

Committee member Tim Treacher said: “The fair gives a window of publicity to these groups.

“There were a lot of Christmas shoppers and some people just came to watch the jazz band.”

Organiser Naveed Chaudhri, pictured, manned the Oxfam stall. He said: “Our campaign at the moment is about climate change and we signed quite a few people up.”
