ANTIQUE fans will discover if their heirlooms are “real Bobby Dazzlers” or just “cheap as chips” when one of Britain’s most famous experts visits Oxford.

TV presenter David Dickinson is heading to the Kassam Stadium with his ITV show Dickinson’s Real Deal on Sunday.

His team of antiques dealers will be on hand to pose the show’s big question — accept a cash deal on the spot, or risk selling your items at auction.

Mr Dickinson and his team visited Oxford Town Hall in September last year.

The visit saw one lucky person sell their paperweight at auction for more then £1,200.

A set of miners’ lamps also fetched £350.

All items, from paintings to furniture, and toys to cutlery, can be valued by the experts.

Mr Dickinson said: “I’m really excited about coming to Oxford. It’s a fascinating place with great history and we’re hoping this will mean lots of hidden gems turning up.”

The TV presenter has been dealing in antiques for more than 30 years.

After running his own shop, he began concentrating on antique fairs. His main dealings were in 18th and 19th century furniture and art.

His big break came with BBC1 programme Bargain Hunt, which was voted most popular daytime programme in the National Television Awards in October 2002.

Mr Dickinson’s catchphrases include “cheap as chips”, “a bit of a duffer” and “a real Bobby Dazzler”, and his most frequently used piece of advice is “always look for quality pieces”.

Stadium general manager Rachel Harwood said: “We are hoping for a really busy day with lots of people bringing along the contents of their lofts for valuation.

“We are looking forward to welcoming David and his team, and hope there will be some lovely surprises for people throughout the day.”

The free event runs at the Grenoble Road stadium from 9am to 5pm.
