Postal strike 'suicide' says Lord Mandelson

A POST strike in Oxfordshire would be a “suicidal” move, business Secretary Lord Mandelson, above, said yesterday during a visit to the Mini factory at Cowley to launch two new models.

The Labour peer urged postal workers to rethink plans for any further action to avoid having a “devastating” impact on people and businesses in the run-up to Christmas. He said: “I would urge postal workers in Oxfordshire to please think again before making any decisions.

“Any strike would be a suicidal move for the unions. Businesses and customers rely on the postal system, especially towards Christmas.

“It could have a devastating impact. This would drive away customers who may never return. We want to see any strikes averted at all costs.”

Paul Garraway, of the Communication Workers’ Union, said: “Lord Mandelson could step in at any time and tell the Royal Mail to negotiate, but he hasn’t.

“For him, it is all about slashing our unions.”

Postal strike 'suicide' says Lord Mandelson. MMM, makes you think that maybe it wouldn't. Because anybody would think that, Bending (breaking) the rules (law) to bring in your Brazillian Toyboy, and doing dodgy Mortgage deals, would be enough to finish ones political career. But in the case of one politician I am led to believe that it actually led to a massive career rise.

Mendelssohn does make your flesh creep, doesn't he? Nonetheless I fear that for once in his life he ain't fibbing here. Don't do it, postmen.

I never thought I'd see the day when a Labour minister was an unelected near-crook, and spent his time attacking the democratic choices of trade union members.

How very sad.

"Labour .... near-crook, .. spent his time ...(cottaging, faking his death, taking bribes)"
Albert Roberts , Andy Cunningham, John Stonehouse, come to mind in the first 10 seconds, and of course much in the Mendelssohn mould and frequently up before the beak, Tom Driberg. Give me a minute, I'll give you a hundred.
