Ten arrested in immigration raid at veg packers Ten arrested in immigration raid at veg packers

TEN workers were arrested when immigration officials raided a Bicester food factory.

The UK Border Agency and two police officers arrived at Just Prepared, in Bainton Close, off Charbridge Way, at 10.30am yesterday.

Documents for about 30 staff were inspected and those of anyone believed to be working illegally were checked against Home Office records.

Ten men, aged between 24 and 48, were arrested and taken to their homes – which were searched for travel documents, such as passports and visas.

The company, which produces salad and vegetable packs, was last night issued with a notice of potential liability, which means it could be fined up to £10,000 for each illegal worker.

Chief Immigration Officer Alex Legg said: “We’re planning a number of operations and have been working on this for a month, after receiving information.”

Immigration officers stressed that the firm had records for all its staff, although it said some may have used fake documents to get work. They said five of the men held had come from India, four from Sri Lanka and one from Pakistan.

Three are believed to have outstayed their visas, one was working in breach of a student visa and another was a failed asylum seeker. Five of the group were thought to have entered the country illegally.

Barry Spencer, owner of Just Prepared, declined to comment.

Officers had been watching the site ahead of the raid and applied to Bicester Magistrates’ Court for a warrant.

Mr Legg, said: “We have seen, in some instances, false documents used and in other instances the identification provided did not match what the Home Office had on record.”

Pc Ben Henley, of Thames Valley Police, said: “We were there to execute the warrant, to stop any breach of the peace and support officers from UK Borders.”

All 10 men were still in custody last night, while officials checked whether they were entitled to work in the UK.

If proper travel documents are found, some could be deported within 72 hours. If not, they may be sent to an immigration detention centre while further checks are carried out.

Following dear old "baroness" Scotland, of course. I did a post on this yesterday but it was taken off. These blokes will have been paying National Insurance Tax on false numbers for months. Nothing will have been done by HMRC. Now they will (invariably) get prison, for working. Anyone who suggests it is the function of UKBA to eject overstayers, detect and eject illegal entrants is clearly missing the point. Its function is to provide "employment" for a lot of people who could not hack it in the real world and furnish them with massive pensions and CBE's.

Ha ha it looks like they will have to change the name of this place to "Not Prepared" rather than "Just prepared" as this seems to be more approriate!
I also assume that whoever is responsible for "employing"these people will be prosecuted and given a prison sentence!!! I expect that they will just get a small fine tough or let off compltelly and the illegal workers will soon be released again to find work somewhere else due to our government policies!
This happens all too often and is part of the reason why there are no jobs available for the local, tax-paying , legal British worker!!!!

This is shocking and Mr Barry Spencer should be imprisoned for this.As he is the owner it is his responsiblity to ensure that this type of thing does not happen and he should take full responsibitly and go to jail with the people that he has employed .

One of Oxford’s prominent Labour Councillors Saj Malik initially came in on a 6 month tourist visa. How come he is still here? I hope all of you will contact the UKBA and try to get him deported!

(Assuming they are deported...) ten down, an estimated 999,990 to go.

NuLabour's record on immigration is a national disgrace- they've allowed so many blatant scams such as bogus student visas, fake marriages and unfounded asylum claims that now an estimated 1 million illegal immigrants with no right to reside in the UK whatsoever live here. This undercuts legitimate businesses, exposes the workers and the public to danger and turns opinion against the genuine cases. Given that these figures represent one in 60 people being an illegal, and that vast tracts of the UK are not populated by people who are clearly not British, it can't be THAT difficult to find them. Anyone illegal should be rounded up and put in a compound with minimal facilities (ie- basic food, shelter and hygiene- no TV and luxuries) until they come clean about where they are from, and can then be deported by ship- not flown out and given generous 'start up' incentives which can be paid straight to people smugglers again.

Before the bleeding hearts start: Our duty is to our own people who have contributed, and the few GENUINE asylum cases- it is not to provide handouts, illegal employment or housing to the 6 billion people who we share the planet with and who have no reason for being in the UK other than economic ones.

Grudon, I thought you would love this. Does this not contradict your beliefs that nothing is done. If these guys have been using fake documents etc they will be ejected immediately. Thats what the law says.
It is good that UKBA has done a great job here. Lets not slag them off, they really can't win otherwise, you moan about illegal immigrants, then you complain about policy when they are caught? WTF!?

I am genuinely sorry about pointing this out, DSullivan, but the text in your message contains at least 9 (Nine) grammatic and syntactic errors. And that's allowing for typos.
.
With the utmost respect, may I suggest you check your text before transmission, otherwise the point of your message may be viewed as either humorous (unintentionally) or at least ambiguous
.

PS I was a sort of teacher , I'm afraid.

If only- anyone who watched the government funded (with £400,000 of our money) propaganda 'Borderforce' will be familiar with the 'severe letting off' meted out to illegal immigrants who are actually caught.

After a lengthy 'successful' operation, the hapless illegals are released and told to report to the authorities in order to hasten their rightful repatriation to their native land. Do many of them turn up? Would you?

J B Blackett,
Thank you sir or madam,
To D Sullivan far from being an illegal immigrant I am a skilled carpenter with qualifications.
I my not have the linguistic skills like some but am not pompous like some and tend to speak from the heart I also have made a very good living through the years with my skills. Strange thing is a lot of immigrants have skills but are forced to work in low paid jobs
Q. What skills do you have
