BUS passengers in the city can have their say on County Hall’s Transform Oxford proposals, two months after the first phase went live.

The Oxford branch of Bus Users UK wants passengers to attend its forum meeting on Tuesday to pass judgement on the £985,000 scheme and the council’s plan to extend city centre pedestrianisation to George Street, Magdalen Street, Broad Street and Queen Street.

The scheme was one of the largest shake-ups of bus services in the city’s history. Twenty-four bus stops were relocated, meaning changes for passengers on 57 routes.

Branch representative Hugh Jaeger said: “The relocation of city centre bus stops has been a major talking point in Oxford, where 44 per cent of all people in the city centre arrive by bus.

“Passengers have been shocked that some of the new bus stops lack seats, shelters, or electronic information displays.

“This is about saying what we as bus passengers want.

“If we say it as a group, councillors, officers and bus company managers will get the message more effectively.”

County council spokesman Marcus Mabberley said: “The council has carried out extensive public consultation over recent months on Transform Oxford and we are always happy to listen to the views of the community on the subject.”

The forum takes place in Town Hall’s assembly room at 6.30pm and will be attended by officers from the city and county councils as well as the bus companies.
