Raymond Blanc is celebrating 25 years running his luxurious Le Manoir aux Quat’ Saisons restaurant – and a special award marking his contribution to catering in Britain.
The chef paraded his trophy, awarded by the magazine Caterer, before 160 guests at a French-themed anniversary lunch party at Le Manoir, at Great Milton, on Tuesday. The event coincided with Bastille Day in France.
After leading guests in a performance of La Marseillaise, Mr Blanc paid tribute to the 200-plus staff at Le Manoir who had contributed to his gaining the award.
He said: “I would like very much to share this wonderful award with my team. I feel proud to have been the architect and custodian of this wonderful place. I’m thrilled to have received this prestigious award.
“My team and I pride ourselves on creating a unique experience to each and every guest and, despite the current gloom, I know there is always room for excellence.”
Since opening in March 1984, Le Manoir has achieved the highest awards of any restaurant and country house hotel in Britain and is considered one of the best in Europe. Awarded two Michelin stars on its opening, the restaurant has retained them ever since.
Michael and Imogen North, who run the Michelin-starred Nut Tree Inn, at Murcott, near Bicester, also picked up a Caterer award.
The pair were named Newcomers of the Year.
