Degree ceremony attracts animal rights protesters

ANIMAL rights protesters were demonstrating outside the Oxford University Encaenia honorary degree ceremony today.

Six people, including author Philip Pullman, are receiving degrees from the university as part of its annual honorary scheme.

Encaenia ceremonies have previously attracted protests from animal rights campaigners angry at the building of a laboratory in South Parks Road.

They chanted throughout the ceremony: “Shame on Oxford University.”

They also held banners and handed out flyers with graphic images.

Protester Emma Speed, 41, said: “We have to take every opportunity to spread our message.”

Its the 'honoury' degrees for keynote people, such as Philip Pullman, not for students.

OU are missing a trick here. While all the protesters are in one place, they should be captured and put in cages to test new cosmetics and medicines. At least if they came to grief they would have died as Martyrs to thier cause while serving the general populous with some purpose....

The usual un-original comments I see...Why use your head when you can mindlessly repeat the same old nonsense...Duh!
cottage - work? harming imprisoned animals every day - what kind of work is that?
BIGGER - it's the supposed 'researchers' that are terrorising helpless animals. On the other hand animal rights are caring!
Peat - it's the ones that can very easily poison and kill animals that should have the tests done on them instead. Don't they deserve a taste of their own medicine?
Quentin of course not one single solitary animal rights person holds down a job - what an inane comment!

you keep jibbering on about the same old rubbish too. Its the same story again, and again, and again. Its as simple as this - Test on Humans or Animals, it has to be tested one way or another before humans use it. We are animals just like them, but a hell of a lot cleverer. I really don't understand how HUMANS want to test on other HUMANS instead of Animals. You hippies have your head so far up your backside it is unreal.

Yet another unelected, self- righteous group of middle aged white crusties emoting about the fluffy animals and the evil, wicked scientists who wake up every morning only to plan new ways to 'torture' animals in ways that a James Bond villain would find deliciously inventive.

With so many Eastern Europeans now in the UK, could we find a quiet corner where we could deport all these hypocritical hysteric to where they can live in a utopia free of medicines, aeroplanes, cars, capitalism, meat, well- fitting clothes and decent haircuts?

I'll write a generous cheque for the first flight- I mean- windmill powered fair trade eco- vegan friendly carbon off set hot air balloon trip out.

Animal terrorists believe animals are human beings without the power of speech, so it's hard to have a debate really. But surely they must have an apologist nearer than Nottinghamshire. And yes Lady Chatterley AR terrorists do tend to be skilled non-workers as I think even Messrs Birnberg Peirce Solicitors would agree-whacko! 'cos you've got to be on welfare these days to get legal aid for magistrates court stuff like threatening behaviour

I did not say she didn't work - I merely asked if she had no work that day.

A little time spent on your grammar and punctuation and less on hysteria and your inferiority complex would stand you in good stead, my dear.

I live in Swindon, is that near enough for you Morons. Also at age 63 have worked all my life including 27 years in the Army so being classed as a hippy by some mindless scum is a laugh. There are no excuses for experimenting on animals. Anyone associated with vivisection must be prepared to take the consequences. These cowards are happy to torture and abuse animals in the pursuit of money so in my opinion leave themselves open for retribution.
