A useful all-round display from Vicky Strode helped Oxfordshire’s women defeat Buckinghamshire by 66 runs in a friendly at Amersham.

Strode made an entertaining 48, including seven fours, in the final ten overs of Oxon’s 208-7.

The leg-spinner then captured 2-42 as Bucks succumbed to 142 all out.

After electing to bat, Oxon got off to the worst possible start, losing both openers, Heather Lang and Lucy Marsh, with the score on 12.

After Gemma Muttitt was also bowled, 16-year-old Megan Burton started the recovery.

She went on to make 38, before she was brilliantly caught at slip by Natasha Daly.

A superb opening spell from Sam Moore (2-18) and Nicola Scull (2-11) restricted Bucks to 15-2, with Scull bowling Kirsty McKenzie and Burton running out Carys Webster.

This bought Shanique Yearwood to the crease, who smacked a very rapid 50.

Fortunately for Oxon, the experienced Helen Smith enticed Yearwood into one big shot too many and she was well-caught from a skier by keeper Burton.

Smith, then removed Daly and Strode took two wickets to get rid of Bucks’ middle order.
