Oxford HC, a junior team combining 11 City of Oxford and five Rover Oxford players, became only the second side from the City to win the Under 14 Mercian Colts League.

A total of 44 teams across the South of England entered the competiton.

Oxford reached the finals day, held at Old Loughians, Chigwell, Essex, by winning their quarter-final against Teddington on flicks.

In the semi-finals, Oxford beat Woking 7-4 , with Joe Brownill scoring four goals.

In the final, watched by more than 250, Oxford dominated the first half against a High Wycombe containing 11 Bucks players.

Brownill scored the only goal from a short corner after great work by Sam Fisher.

Oxford's defence, brilliantly marshalled by Joseph Foster, then saw out the game.

Surbiton and England player Richard Alexander presented them with the trophy.
