OXFORD’S first fashion week started last night – bringing a clutch of top name designer creations to a city centre nightclub.

More than 20 models strutted down the runway at The Bridge, in Hythe Bridge Street, sporting the latest lines from internationally renowned fashion labels such as LK Bennett, French Connection, Zara and Superdry.

The glamorous event marked the start of the six night fashion week, which organisers claim will be the UK’s second biggest catwalk extravaganza, after the famous annual London Fashion Week.

Tomorrow night will see the week’s most outrageous and unusual clothes on display when Freud’s cafe in Jericho plays host to an avant garde fashion concept show.

Wednesday night will see a bikini and lingerie show at the city’s Malmaison hotel.

The week will culminate with a couture show at the Sheldonian Theatre featuring cutting-edge clothes and eveningwear by designers such as Alexander McQueen CBE, who has been named British designer of the year four times.

Organiser Carl Anglim, of Bullingdon Road, East Oxford, said: “We’re ecstatic to be putting on the city’s first ever fashion week.

“It’s going to be a great six days for fashion lovers in Oxford.

“We have had so much interest and support for the event from designers. It’s become far greater than we ever anticipated. If it is a success it will become an annual event.”
