MP Smith defies Government over new runway

Oxford East MP Andrew Smith tonight defied a three-line Labour whip to vote against a controversial third runway at Heathrow.

Mr Smith said: "I voted against the Government on this because I think a third runway at Heathrow is the wrong thing to do.

“It would inflict huge damage on the environment — both locally and globally. Labour is right to set demanding targets to combat climate change, but Heathrow expansion would make it much harder to hit them and sends totally the wrong signal about the action needed.

“I have consulted constituents extensively about this and received overwhelming support for my position."

wow indeed. After all the unspeakable things he's voted for, here's just a crumb of a thing to make a stand on.

NuLabour are finished anyway- what's he got to lose?

They've presided over the biggest financial catstrophe since World war 2; the widening of the poverty gap; the flourishing of the benefits class; a self- confessed immigration 'free for all'; two costly wars (one illegal) and have virtually bankrupted the Country, saddling generations to come with debt.

Hopefully NuLabour won;t get back in any position of decision making for generations- unfortunately they haven't left much of a Country to salvage.

Most are blow ins.Now if you include North Berks,Pam Ayres is by far the most influential.Staying with North Berks,In"Who was who" we have King Alfred, who berkshire men assisted 100 years before Oxon was formed.Without him there would be no England and you would all be speaking Danish.

Olfar, Suggest you may have left your brain in Wessex. Either that or you need to go to 'Specsavers' ( or are there none in Wessex since he lost his arm)! This is about Smith!
