Saracens sin as Warriors get whacked

Borehamwood Saracens maintained their position at the top of the Eastern Skater Hockey Youth League, thanks to a 6-2 victory over the Warriors at the weekend.

Sarries' Chris Dartnell opened the scoring. Unfortunately, untidy tackling put two Saracens into the sin bin, enabling the Warriors to equalise.

Once they were back to full strength, the Saracens scored through a Tom Dickinson goal set up by Sam Scrivener.

A Nick Avery strike brought a dull second period to life. Then Chris Dartnell netted his second goal of the day.

However, opponents Warriors capitalised upon the Saracens' inability to maintain possession, to pull a goal back. The start of the final period saw Sarries' Craig Bishop fire in two superb goals in as many minutes.

*The Borehamwood Knights lost their junior league clash with the Havering Panthers 9-6 at the weekend.

Disaster struck at the start of the game as Havering shot past Knights' keeper Sean Cross. After losing possession, the Knights conceded twice more.

In the second period, following a goalmouth scramble, the Knights' conceded their fourth goal. Number five rapidly followed.

Knights' newcomer Ryan Butcher's strike gave the Borehamwood side a ray of hope. However, the Knights' poor defending saw Havering increase their lead to 6-1.

The Knights started the final period with Ryan Haylock chipping a shot into Havering's net. This was followed by a goal from Matt Box. The gap was further narrowed by Craig Headley. This fightback was shortlived as Havering scored from the next face-off.

However, the Knights fought back with Box scoring his second goal. Despite a heroic goal from Harry Hammon, the damage had been done, and Havering went on to win 9-6.

*A depleted Borehamwood Kings squad defeated Havering Liberators 8-2 in a junior league encounter.

A second minute Curtis Esty goal gave the Kings an early lead, but hard tackling by Havering thwarted any more chances. At the end of the first period, Havering equalised.

Steve Dickinson restored the Kings' lead with a flicked shot in the second period. Then Esty ripped through Havering's defence to net twice. Dickinson scored with a slapshot before he helped Esty to score. However, Havering managed to grab a second goal in this period of the match.

Despite Havering's physical tactics, the Kings managed to score twice through Dickinson.

*The Borehamwood Lionhearts skater hockey squad suffered their first league defeat of the season at the weekend, losing 3-2 to the Warriors.

The Lionhearts started brightly when Ross Sin-Hidge put them 1-0 ahead. However, the Warriors delivered the equaliser before Lionhearts' Theo Sion restored his side's lead.

In the second period, the Warriors balanced the books through a penalty. They went on to win the game with a unstoppable shot past Lionhearts' keeper James Wright.
