Star's signing delights dogs

There were a few fans of Martin Clunes not usually seen at a book signing today.

The comedy actor was at Mostly Books, in Stert Street, Abingdon to publicise his new book A Dog’s Life, a wry look at his family’s life with their three dogs Mary, Tina and Arthur.

And among the crowds were a few dogs, including Drew, who gave the funnyman a slobbery kiss.

Drew is in training to be a guide dog and her fosterer Julie Ridge, 52, from Radley said: “It’s the first time I have seen him face to face, and he’s lovely.

“It's good they have got him to come to Abingdon, because not much happens here and this has really livened up the town.”

Mr Clunes said: “I haven’t seen much of Abingdon today but I really like coming to support the independent traders.

“I’m immensely proud of my book. It took me about four months to write.

“My love of dogs started when I was a child, but it has got worse as the years have gone on and now it has reached epidemic proportions.

“It has been nice to meet people and some of them have brought their dogs, which I always like hearing about.”

Mr Clunes will attend another book signing in Oxford tomorrow, at Borders bookshop, in Magdalen Street, from 1.30pm-2.30pm. Dogs are welcome.

If he'd hung about and popped up Strattons I'm sure Mr Clunes would've received another slobbery kiss from a dog
