A painter and decorator today denied raping a woman he met in an Oxford takeaway.

Duran Palmer, of Aytoun Place, Brixton, London, took the stand at Oxford Crown Court to tell the jury he had consensual sex with the woman, who cannot be named for legal reasons.

The 23-year-old said he had met the woman, exchanged telephone numbers with her, and arranged to meet up about a month later on November 22 last year.

He said he picked her up in a black Ford Focus and took her to a friend's flat in Windrush Tower, Blackbird Leys.

He said: "She was consenting. She gave me a kiss and a cuddle. I did not force myself on her."

During cross-examination, Alan Maines, prosecuting, said: "You got her into the car under the pretext of going for a drink.

"The truth is she never made any physical advance to you at all. She was pushing you away and trying to push you off.

"Every move that you made, she made it clear she did not want."

Palmer, who faces one charge of rape, denied the claims.

Earlier in the trial the court heard Palmer's alleged victim, 22, had sent a text message to a friend later that evening which read: "Man went too far and forced himself on me. I am not happy."

The case continues.
