Fox FM to get new name

First published in News

Fox FM, the commercial radio station that covers Oxfordshire and west Buckinghamshire, is to be rebranded as Heart, as part of a shake-up of almost 30 local radio stations.

The rebranding will take place in the next 12 to 18 months, but Mark Sadler, Fox FM programme controller, insisted all local shows — including breakfast and drive time — would remain the same.

Fox FM was formed in 1989 and is based in Pony Road in Oxford’s Horspath Industrial Estate.

As the first Head of News at Fox Fm I am not only sad to hear of the demise of the station's name but feel it is a bizarre decision to get rid of a name that has built up so much loyalty from the community it serves over the last 19 years. When we launched in 1989 we knew we were serving a unique part of the country and those of us who were part of that launch won't forget the experience of people waving at us as we drove around the area in our FOX FM branded cars and turning up in their thousands at the early events. The radio industry has changed hugely since then and over time FOX FM has become a 'heritage' brand! It is a brand that is discarded by the new owners at their peril.
