Last week was an important milestone for the theatre – we held our first proper exhibition. For those who know Pegasus, you’re probably wondering how we managed to achieve this feat without an exhibition space! Entitled Offstage, this exhibition by photographer David Fisher took place on stage! It marked the end of a year in residence for David in which he attempted to capture the behind the scenes working of Pegasus combined with images that he’d taken of productions here over the course of the last 5 years.

The space was decommissioned for the week and 80 images hung on the stage in a gallery format using fishing line that gave the impression of them ‘floating’ in space. This was no minor feat – it took 50 ‘man’ hours to hang, approx 10 min per photo to install, combining special lighting and a soundtrack. In fact, it took longer to create the exhibition that it was open for!

Installing the exhibition also involved 650 knots (Nomi, one of our technicians, informed me that for two nights during the setting up of the exhibition, she woke up counting knots! – that’s dedication for you); 96 screw eyelets, 1.2 km of fishing wire and 100m of insulating tape.

Responses throughout the week were very positive and encouraging. So much so that I’ve started dreaming of the new building that we will have in 2010 and our ability to do more gallery type events on an ongoing basis but first back to raising the final tranche of the money and taking the exhibition down returning the space back to our performance and workshop programme.

If you missed the exhibition, we’re planning to tour it to various spaces over the coming year. Information will be on the website.
