Policeman crushed by motorist

6:59pm Monday 29th October 2001

A PLAIN clothes police officer was injured when the driver of a car he was trying to stop reversed into him.

The detective was one of three officers who approached the silver BMW and a white panel van in a Dartford car park, suspecting the people inside to be involved in handling stolen property or drugs.

The car, fitted with false number plates W579 CVX, reversed quickly, trapping the officer in a rear door. He suffered minor back injuries.

The windscreen was damaged in the incident on Thursday, October 25, at about 12pm.

Immediately after, two men and two women, thought to be trying to break into cars in the same car park, on Tunnel Approach Road, were disturbed by officers. They sped off in a green Ford Escort, registration TLF347W, towards Cotton Lane. Police believe they may have been involved in a string of thefts that morning.

Call the Igneous Car Crime Team on 01474 565002 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
