Members of the Sharks Swimming Club from at the Eric Liddell Sports Centre, in Mottingham, returned from the Reading National Championships with a superb haul of individual and relay medals.

Among the local swimmers taking part was Sidcup's Samantha Mercer, who led the way by winning a splendid double gold in the 100 metres backstroke and 50m freestyle. She also won silver in the 50m backstroke as well as a bronze when swimming in the medley relay.

Also on the gold trail was Erith's Sarah-Louise Casey, who swam briliantly to win the 100m backstroke and then won a silver in the around 50m butterfly. She also won bronze in both male medley and freestyle relays.

Swanley's Iain Ambrose also had a fine gala. He won bronzes in the 100m backstroke and breaststroke finals, as well as the medley and freestyle relays.

Adam Baker, from Welling, was another to come home with four medals. He won well-earned silvers in the 50 and 100m breaststroke events, plus bronze in the medley and freestyle relays.

Matthew Griffiths, who comes from Erith, managed one place on the podium, but it was a highly commendable silver-medal position in the toughest of events the butterfly over 50 metres.
