The organisers of a charity football tournament are calling on players to dig out their kit and join in the fun to help an Oxfordshire child.

Stepping into the boots of successful football tournaments such as Play2give, fundraisers for Fox FM's charity Help an Oxfordshire Child hope their own five-a-side tournament on Sunday August 10 will also be a hit.

Organiser Chris Tarratt said: "We're having a day of family fun to go with the football.

"There will be games like the mega-slide, Giant Jenga and Connect 4, and activities such as face painting, and a barbecue and live music.

"It's going to be a great day out for the family and will raise money for a great charity."

Help an Oxfordshire Child donates money to help local causes.

One of the main beneficiaries of the money raised by the charity is the Oxford Children's Hospital, which opened in 2007.

Dale Harris, from Cowley, who played in the last fundraising game for the hospital, will once again be joining in the action with Andrew Baker, 20, who set up the Play2Give scheme.

Mr Harris hopes that his daughter, five-year-old Mya, who has spina bifida and has undergone brain surgery at the hospital, will be well enough to watch him play on Sunday.

Mr Harris said: "My inspiration to get involved has come from my daughter. These sorts of events are good for the parents and the families of children who are treated at the hospital.

"The facilities at the hospital are fantastic but we still need to raise money to keep them going."

Mr Tarratt added: "We need all the support we can to make this day a success.

"Everyone is welcome to come along with family, friends, and work coll- eagues.

"Teams can even try their luck against a team of Fox FM presenters, who will be joining in the fun this weekend."

The tournament is at Tilsley Park in Abingdon. For details, or to enter a team, see www.eventaid.org or call 07885 157903.
