Two teenagers were remanded in custody this morning accused of an attack which has left a Japanese student fighting for his life in hospital.

Craig Knowles, 18, from Oxford Road, Marston and Thomas Mack, 18, from Nicholas Avenue in Marston appeared at Oxford Magistrates' Court today.

Both are charged with robbery and causing grievous bodily harm with intent, and were remanded in custody to appear at Oxford Crown Court next Monday.

The charges are in connection with an attack on Kentaro Ikeda, a Japanese student at Oxford University, early on Thursday morning.

Mr Ikeda is still in a critical but stable condition at the John Radcliffe Hospital.

If found guilty they should get 20-30 years each.

Oxford should be seen to protect its visitors who frankly ensure the future of this city.
