The future of King Henry VIII's favourite Tudor warship is in safe hands thanks to a super-microscope at Harwell.
Scientists are using cutting-edge technology at the £260m Diamond Light Source to help conserve the historic timbers of the Mary Rose.
The ship capsized in the Solent in 1545 and 400 years later in 1982, it was recovered.
Scientists at Harwell, opened last year by the Queen, will focus their efforts on the timber surrounding metal bolts or canons to find out how the wood can be preserved.
