Student broadcasters in Oxford are hoping to raise £10,000 for good causes by raffling prizes donated by sports stars - and auctioning off Oxford University's top athletes.

Kelly Holmes, Sir Steve Redgrave, Alan Shearer, Michael Vaughan and Linford Christie have all supported Oxide Does Sport Relief, organised by Oxide, Oxford University's student radio station, by donating signed T-shirts, fitness videos and autobiographies.

Station manager Katie Traxton, who has spent the last four weeks organising the fundraising event, told the Oxford Mail there would be a party, auction and raffle, and 650 tickets up for grabs.

The event is scheduled for Tuesday, March 4, as the main Sport Relief weekend - March 14 to 16 - falls during the Easter Holidays.

"It's going to be an incredible night and it's all for charity," said the 21-year-old, who is in her second year studying English Literature at Hertford College.

"It's really exciting - I want to make sure everything goes to plan and it's perfect.

"It will be the best event possible."

Oxide Does Sport Relief takes place at Oxford nightlcub Ocean and Collins, from 8pm to 2am, and tickets are £6.50.

Ms Traxton added: "There will be a human auction and we have about 25 to 30 lots - they are all the captains of the college sports teams.

"People are going to bid to take them out to dinner, it should be funny."

She thanked Ocean and Collins for allowing the radio station to use the venue free-of-charge, as well as Shirtworks for sponsoring T-shirts for the auctioneers and event organisers. Oxide will also be providing music at the nightclub.

Ms Traxton said: "The venue is perfect because there is a central area which is lowered and we are going to be decorating the place with a sports theme."
