A new pizza restaurant, a 3D cinema, and the decision on a new Oxford University building are just some of the latest Oxford planning updates. 

There are also new updates on the controversial plans for East Oxford Community Centre.

The plans can be viewed, and commented on, at the Oxford City Council planning portal.

New Oxford University building  to be built

Permission has been given to Oxford university to build a 4552 square metres of office, research and teaching space for the Institute for Global Health.

It will be based on Old Road Campus in Headington.

As part of this, there will be an outbuilding to provide cycle parking, bin storage and an associated sprinkler system.

A public footpath in the area will be diverted as part of the conditions of the decision.

Plans for new Franco Manca to come to Summertown 

A planning application has been submitted for a new Franco Manca to come to 276-292 Banbury Road. 

Plans have been submitted for new signage with the pizza chains' characteristic lettering.

There is already a Franco Manca on George Street in Oxford. 

Latest on a 3D Cinema at Oxford Castle

Oxford Mail:

A planning application for a 3D cinema in the Castle Quater, along with other immersive attractions such as virtual reality racing, have recently been updated. 

The Oxford Mail reported on them recently here

Gateway Attractions Ltd., the company behind the plans, say a 3D cinema will ‘supplement the more traditional tourist offer’ at the castle.

A decision is still being waited on from the council, with a number of amendments suggested.

These included concerns about where video walls would be mounted, which have now been removed from the application, further details needed about lighting, and worries that exterior signage may impact the appearance of the protected historical site.

East Oxford Community centre to be turned into housing

Oxford City Council has applied for permission to build new homes on Princes Street and Collins Street, off Cowley Road, where the East Oxford Community centre was.

A planning document states the council's intention is to "improve and extend the provision of community facilities and to consolidate the existing community centre building within the Princes street site, while also looking at proposed residential development on the Collins Street and Princes Street sites."

Trees to be cut down

Planning permission has been granted this week to fell a Purple Plum tree and Silver Birch tree at Black Hall House on Northmoor Road Oxford in Oxfordshire.
