Bruce Hegarty, the Westgate car park tree campaigner, has come down from his 20-metre-high sit-in.
Wet, cold and tired, Mr Hegarty called time on his one-man show of strength for under-threat trees lining the car park after 24 hours.
He climbed up a London Plane tree close to Greyfriars Street, Oxford, at about midday yesterday to protest at plans to fell the trees.
A county councillor, Deborah Glass Woodin, was arrested for aggravated trespass for her part in the demonstration.
She has since been released on police bail.
