An inspector has recommended rejection of protected Village Green status for Radley Lakes, near Abingdon.

Vivian Chapman QC held a public inquiry in April and June into the application from Save Radley Lakes member Jo Cartmell to protect both Thrupp and Bullfield Lakes from being used as a dump for spent fuel ash from Didcot Power station.

Mrs Cartmell argued that the lakes and land had been used by the public for recreational purposes for at least 20 years and should be granted Town or Village Green status.

The inquiry was held because village green issues are completely different to the planning process.

Planning permission has been given to energy giant npower for the Radley Lakes development.

Mr Chapman's recommendation will now be considered and a decision made at next month's meeting of Oxfordshire County Council's Planning and Regulation committee.

So the truth is out finally, the car dumping ground where people "used" as a public recreation site is not true?? at last.

The truth is that this area has been used by the public for more than 20 years for legitimate recreational purposes. The fact that some have used it as a dump for stolen and wrecked cars is incidental. Once more the industrial bullies have triumphed, first BMW, now nPower, who's next to throw their weight around to the cost of the general public?

The battle may be lost but the war is not over as some General once said. There are grounds for a review. If enough people agree to support a legal challenge, then there will be one.

In answer to Sam of Didcot Power Station fame, there are hundreds of people in Abingdon who use this area for lawful recreation. The car dumpers use NPower's already filled in gravel pits for their illegal activities.

Unless NPower have a change of heart, there will be yet another dumping ground for the yobs.

Am your measure of progress is the amount of public space and wildlife habitat that is destroyed?

Oh dear, what a sad fact - these 'giant' bullies appear to be winning. And Sam or nor Sam of Didcot - where do you get off in life? What is wrong when protecting an area which harbours lots of life and a beauty of its own is wrong to protect? Why do you think its only hippies (and what is wrong with hippies) that feel the need to protect the green? I love it, I love the green space, the fresh air, the beautiful wildlife, the precious nature, hippie or no hippie I will fight for the lakes, and the green parks and the green lungs that we so desperatly need. Sam - you go and live in your little room, your little concrete sububia, with your latest gadgets and gizoms - you live a life without clean air, green spaces, animals and birds - what went wrong for you to hate the natural world this way?
