A HEROIC helper has today proven that revellers at this weekend’s Witney Music Festival are in very safe hands indeed.

As organisers set up staging this afternoon and made the final sound checks, a hero member of the festival team showed off his first aid skills in a real-life rescue.

Craig Raven was helping get the site ready when he spotted an elderly lady take a tumble near the festival site on the Leys.

Mr Raven and another member of the organising team ran to the rescue.

They gave emergency assistance to the woman, who turned out to be called Betty, while also comforting her worried husband Eric.

Onlookers called an ambulance and Betty, 85, was taken to hospital to get treatment for serious cuts.

Festival chairman Eric Marshall heaped praise on his hero colleague and said: “It emphasises what the festival is about – including the community and looking after people in Witney.”

Tonight's main at the festival will be tribute band Noasis, while Liverpool-based The Farm will headline day two tomorrow, with gates opening at 11am.
