THE nervous wait is nearly over for thousands of school pupils across the county as they collect their A-Level results tomorrow morning.

Schools have been anxiously waiting to see how their students have performed in the second year of the changed A-Level system.

A further 11 subjects moved across to a more exam-focused structure this year, with less emphasis on coursework and pupils sitting all tests at the end of two years study.

Last summer, students sat exams in the first 13 reformed A-Level subjects, and new subjects added this year include modern foreign languages, geography, music and religious studies.

A large rise in the number of unconditional offers by universities could also have an impact on performance this year with some experts predicting standards could be down due to students already having a guaranteed place to study.

Elsewhere, Oxford has been named as one of the least affordable places to go to university outside of London.

Totally Money unveiled a league table ahead of results being released, based on data including monthly rent, travel and the cost of a pint.

Oxford Mail:

Coming in at 36th place out of 50, Oxford's high rents pushed the cost of living in the city but students can save on cheaper cinemas and gyms.
