CAMPAIGNERS fighting to prevent a popular music venue being demolished in favour of flats have achieved a minor victory.

West Oxfordshire District Council’s planning committee voted this afternoon to defer the application to demolish The Rock Barn, in Witney Market Square, until a site visit on September 6.

The council’s planning officer had recommended the committee approve the application, but at a meeting at the council offices attended by some 100 of the Rock Barn’s supporters, councillors decided to take a closer look.

Earlier this afternoon around two dozen campaigners from the #SaveTheRockBarn group marched through Witney town centre to show their opposition to the plans.
