DOCKLESS bikes have been spotted being pulled from the River Thames in Oxford as debate continues over the transport system.

An Oxford Mail reader took to Twitter to share a picture of an Ofo bike and a Pony bike that had been dredged from the waters yesterday.

Twitter user @Plop229 said they were taken from the river by workmen resurfacing the path.

It follows our report of criticism of the scheme after images showing eight bikes stacked in a haphazard pile in Blue Boar Street were shared online on Monday.

Many recognise both the health and environmental benefits to the scheme, however, the hire firms have previously been urged to take more responsibility after accusations that bikes left on the city’s pavements were becoming a hazard for pedestrians, especially the visually impaired.

Earlier in the year an Ofo bike was pictured shimmering beneath the water at what appears to be Castle Mill Stream.
