ONE of Oxford's most highly-prized green havens was thanking its lucky stars this weekend as Friday night's sudden rain refreshed its greenery before an open day on Saturday.

However the volunteers at Barracks Lane Community Garden still gave their herbaceous borders an extra drink for good measure before welcoming visitors.

The garden, just off Iffley Road, invited locals to come and explore the natural wonders, join weekly fun activities and also try out the new pizza oven throughout the day.

The garden group, which has charitable status, has been welcoming visitors throughout the summer for educational, environmental fun.

Visitors are invited to discover the 'eco cabin' with wood burning stove, a bonfire and barbeque area, a basic kitchen, table and chairs, a wood-fired oven, cob oven and tandoor oven a sandpit and a wildlife pond.

The garden is also accessible for wheelchair users and pushchairs.
