AN injured builder who had fallen from scaffolding had to be rescued by specialist fire crews on Thursday.

Emergency services were called to the property in Orchard Way at around 1.20pm after the man had fallen through an opening into the first floor below.

Crews from Wantage attended along with members of the specialist rope rescue team from Kidlington who were able to lower themselves into the property, which is currently undergoing construction, to where the injured man lay.

The team then lifted him back out of the opening and safely lowered him to paramedics on the ground floor.

The patient was then taken to hospital.

Incident Commander Stuart McDowell from Wantage said: “This was a great example of the services working together to make the injured casualty as comfortable as possible and move them safely.

“Although only a short distance, due to the nature of where they were located, the use of specialist teams was invaluable.”
