RUNNERS celebrated their club’s 30th birthday the only way they know how – running 30 miles around Oxford.

Headington Road Runners set off from their base at the Oxsrad Leisure Centre on Saturday to see in three decades pounding the streets.

The club, which formed in 1988, is one of Oxford’s most well-established and largest, regularly competing in road and cross-country races throughout the year.

Split into three 10-mile loops, some members tackled the entire 30 miles while others elected to just do one or two circuits.

Chairman Emma Carter-Biggs said: “When the club was founded, it was with the ethos of running together.

“Thirty years later that still applies.

“We still have runners with us who were there in those early days and it is a testament to the friendliness, inclusiveness and support that the club gives its runners that we are still running together, stronger than ever."

She added: “We look forward to the next 30 years.”
