THOUSANDS of personalised number plates are up for auction in Oxford this week, with the nation's BR17 NEYs and NOA 8Hs set to spend thousands of pounds. 

Some 29 years after it first started offering them, the DVLA is expecting to sell its 200,000th personalised registration at some point over the three day event in the Oxford Belfry Hotel. 

It has even lined up a special '200 CM' combination to go under the hammer shortly after lunchtime on Wednesday - with a reserve of £2,200. 

In total 1,250 lots are up for grabs from Wednesday with BR17 NEY being tipped to make its £700 reserve and more, possibly due to the ongoing popularity of the 90s popstar. 

Other weird and wonderful options include HA11 NNA, PA11 TSY and DHH 110N, the later likely to prove popular among those who share the Indian surname.

Away from names, other plates relate to the names of countries and cars including LAM 80D and MCL 650M.
