DEFENDING champions Florence Park fought off a strong challenge from Premier Section leaders Kidlington Green Social Club to win 6-3 in the Cowley Workers ODDA Women’s Summer League.
Hosts Florence Park raced into a 2-0 lead with wins from Angie Godfrey and Michelle Ewins, before the visitors pulled one back through Sue Pollard.
After Clare Bywaters restored the home side’s two-leg advantage, Green Club fought back to level at 3-3 thanks to Kerry Ryman and Natasha Pitts
But a clean sweep of the pairs gave them a 6-3 win.
Premier sideAmpleforth Arms (Premier) proved to strong Section 1 newcomers Donnington Community Centre B, cruising home 8-1.
In Section 2, Cowley Workers C came from 3-0 down to record a thrilling 5-4 victory away to Kidlington FC.
The host seemed in command after wins from Gina Wheeler, Linda Slay, Helen Lord.
But the Workers staged a great recovery thanks to Danni Phipps Nicki Merrett and Kate Padfield, before a 2-1 pairs success helped them snatch the points.
Dan Webb scored a maximum as TJs Club won 7-2 at home to |Black Bull in Men’s Division 2
Other singles victories from Steve Willoughby and Andy Haslam raced the hosts into 3-0 lead.
Bull pulled one back when Neal Lowe inflicted a first defeat of the season on Paul Bustin, but further successes from Alan Eckart and Howard Cannon secured TJs the points.
In Section 3, Cricketers Arms C won by the same margin at home to Donnington Community Centre thanks to singles victories from Eddie Smith, Michael Ashburner, Jermaine Taylor, Dale Jacobs and Sean Ashburner.
