A COUNCIL in South Oxfordshire roasted local chicken keepers, after being embroiled in a bizarre allotment spat, it has emerged.
Berinsfield Parish Council was told earlier this year that some allotment tenants were keeping cockerels as well as hens on their plots, despite tenancy agreements specifying that only female chickens were permitted.
The clerk informed a council meeting that allotment holders contravening their agreement were to be given two weeks to remove the offending cockerels.
It is not known if the male chickens have since been seen on the allotments.
