HUNDREDS of dead fish seen floating in Ladygrove Lakes in Didcot were killed as a result of the hot weather, the Environment Agency has said.
Residents became concerned after noticing the floating fish in the popular park yesterday.
Staff from the agency were on site today and said the hot, sunny weather had resulted in a rapid increase in algae in the lake.
This phenomena, known as an 'algal bloom' was starving the fish of oxygen, resulting in their deaths.
An 'aerator' was used by the agency to increase oxygen levels in the lake in the hope of solving the problem.
Residents have been urged to call 0800 807060 to report any further dead fish or algal blooms.
Benson weather station reported highs of nearly 28C today as the country experienced its hottest day of the year so far.
