FIREFIGHTERS have put out a warning after a dangerous driver slowed them down on the way to an emergency.

Bicester fire station said the driver on the M40 slowed them down on Sunday when they overtook numerous cars that had pulled out the way for the fire engine.

It happened around Junction 10 of the M40 and the fire service said the driver’s dangerous actions overtaking ‘multiple times’ risked a collision and slowed their response.

The service tweeted out the warning to drivers to act sensibly when moving out the way for emergency vehicles on blue lights.

The tweet said the incident was just one of a number of ‘interesting responses’ from drivers on Sunday.

It said: “We had a very busy Sunday with some interesting responses to our blue lights.

“Please pull over at the next safe opportunity and if it is not possible, continue at normal speed until you can stop safely”

It added: “Pull over to the left, not into the oncoming lane!”

The fire service crew in Bicester previously posted a video online of the the emergency response journey to an incident to show what emergency vehicles come up against when rushing to a job.

It said it appreciated the difficulties when pulling over.
