TWO sheds which went up in flames on a village allotment and sent a plume of black smoke into the sky prompted an emergency call out from Oxfordshire Fire and Rescue this afternoon.
Residents of Kidlington called 999 just after 1pm when the sheds caught light at the allotments off Banbury Road.
An Oxford Mail reader, who took these pictures, said he was walking down Banbury Road to go and watch this afternoon's England game when he saw a plume of smoke rising from up the street.
He was just about to call 999 when he saw fire engines race past in that direction.
Oxfordshire Fire and Rescue Service has now confirmed it was called to deal with the blaze.
Group manager Simon Blecher said the service sent one fire engine from Kidlington, and is now looking into the cause of the conflagration.
