The road has since reopened but there is still heavy traffic in the area.

A statement on the Oxford Tube website, posted before the road reopened, said: "Due to the emergency closure of the High Street a number of stops are currently out of use.

"Coaches towards London are unable to serve High Steet.

"Coaches towards Oxford are unable to serve St Aldate's, High Street, St Clement's and Oxford Brookes.

"We apologise for any inconvenience caused and will update this notice accordingly."
