CAMPFIRE cooking, bouquet-making and a clothes swap shop are among events an a county-wide conservation event.

Oxford Green Week starts today with a series of activities across Oxfordshire, from birdwatching in Bloxham to a teddy bears’ picnic in Bicester.

The summer festival taps into culture, creativity and community to encourage people to combat climate change.

It runs annually and is coordinated by Oxford City Council, in partnership with a host of other groups and organisations.

The council’s environment champion Tom Hayes said: “Our environmental partners in the community have put on an exciting and varied programme.

“There are so many ways that we can all get involved in combating climate change and cleaning up our toxic air, and many of these events will highlight the ways in which we can all play our part.”

Scores of events are planned this weekend and into next week, before the festival draws to a close next Sunday.

Today’s activities include a mosaic workshop in Wantage, a tour of Ardley Energy Recovery Facility, an open day at Boundary Brook nature reserve in Oxford and flower bouquet making at nearby Barracks Lane Community Garden.

Tomorrow’s line-up includes an ‘orchid extravaganza’ in Charlton-on-Otmoor, fair trade meeting in Oxford and a clothes swap shop, also in the city.
