BAME students at Oxford University have posed for a photo recreating the infamous Bullingdon Club picture of 1987.

The original photograph shows a young David Cameron dressed up for an event with the controversial drinking society 31 years ago.

But 17 current and former 'students of colour' have now recreated the scene outside Christ Church college with a diverse twist – to 'signify how far this institution has come... and anticipate future progress'.

The group, calling themselves ‘Presidents of Colour’, are current and former leaders of Oxford colleges’ Junior Common Rooms and one ball committee president.

They believe the original image 'embodied a world of inherited privilege, the excesses of elitism, and the exclusive structure of power'.

Oxford Mail:

Oxford has recently faced heavy criticism over diversity.

In a statement the group add: “May the halls of power - once grey - be filled evermore with colour, diversity, and culture.”

Alan Rusbridger, the Principal of Lady Margaret Hall College and former Guardian editor, tweeted: “I love this picture - subverting the Bullingdon image of @UniofOxford. More than 40% of JCR presidents are now BAME. V proud that two of those pictured are from @lmhoxford . Oxford is changing...”
