MEMBERS of the North Oxford Junior Dramatic Society celebrated their 30th anniversary in 1989.

They marked the occasion at Wolvercote Village Hall just days before Christmas with a sell-out revival of Lionel Bart's hit musical Oliver.

The group was founded in 1959 by Peter Bridges who three decades later still remained a youth leader.

Over the 30 years of shows the group had grown, it had a army of ex-members and parents helping back stage and modern technology had helped make a small stage less restricting.

In 1989, Oliver was staged as the group's annual Christmas show and was the first one ever performed before Christmas due to cast members being away over the holidays.

The performance was highly commended with cast members Adam Dale, Kieran Fox, Katherine Prince and Cyril Joyce getting a mention for their parts.
