CONCERNED passers have told the Oxford Mail how they rushed to the aid of 20-year-old man who was left with a fractured skull and a bleed to the brain after he was attacked by a group of men outside Domino's Pizza on Frideswide Square.

Following the attack at around 3.45am on Sunday morning near the railway station, the man was taken to John Radcliffe Hospital in Headington where he currently remains.

The Oxford Mail understands that the attack happened after the victim, believed to be from Wantage, tried to break up a fight.

He was then hit from behind with a weapon and knocked unconscious, before being kicked in the head several times.

Thames Valley Police said he also suffered damage to his eyesight.

Another man, aged 19, sustained minor injures and a cut to his eye and was also taken to hospital, but has since been discharged.

A woman who asked not to be named, told the Oxford Mail this afternoon how she was on the scene and rushed to the aid of the victim to give him first aid and called 999.

The force are currently appealing for witnesses to the event and the offenders are described as a group of young males wearing black jackets and white T-shirts.

No further information has been released by the police.

Investigating officer detective constable Harriet Scroggs said: "This was a nasty attack, which has left one man with serious injuries.

"I am appealing for anybody who was in the vicinity of the Domino's Pizza at around 3.45am and saw the incident, or who knows who the offenders are, to make contact with police."
