THE sport and leisure team of Cherwell District Council has secured £215,000 to help families get fit.

The grant has been awarded to the council from Sport England and will go towards helping fund recreational activities in Grimsbury, Hardwick, Neithrop and Ruscote in Banbury.

Cherwell District Council deputy leader George Reynolds said: “It’s our job as the district council to make it easier for people to enjoy their leisure time and keep fit. The added bonus of promoting activities that the whole family can do is that it solves childcare problems and helps families enjoy more time together.

"We’ve chosen to focus on those wards of Banbury which experience multiple indices of deprivation; we’re keen to deliver where it matters most."

It will enable the council to provide cut-price rates at Woodgreen Leisure Centre and after-school activities for children age 11 and under.

The scheme will be launched in the summer holidays as the schools break up.
