A POLICE helicopter was deployed over Faringdon after reports of a man carrying a firearm through the streets.
A team of armed officers also scrambled to the area near Tesco at about 8pm last night.
A man matching the description given was found, arrested and searched while officers scoured nearby bushes, but after an extensive hunt no firearm and police said the man was 'de-arrested' as there was 'no risk to the public'.
As a result of the incident, Thames Valley Police said it had an increased presence in Faringdon today, 'patrolling for reassurance'.
